CATL Launches World’s First Battery Recycling Program
Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited(hereinafter referred to as “CATL”) and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation (hereinafter referred to as “the Foundation”) announced in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on March 21, a strategic partnership to jointly promote the development of the global battery recycling economy.
As the first new energy innovation technology enterprise to join the Foundation’s strategic cooperation network, CATL launched the Global Energy Recycling Program.
The two parties will jointly conduct systematic research on the battery recycling economy, build a global ecological network, and share cutting-edge practices on battery recycling. The two sides will also explore the transformation path of battery recycling economy in different countries and regions, and build battery recycling economy benchmark cities. This is also the world’s first recycling economy public welfare program initiated by a Chinese company.
The launch of this battery recycling economy project marks the first time that the new energy industry will build a collaborative network covering the entire industrial chain, government and enterprise policymakers, social organizations and other multiple forces.
“CATL has realized an ecological closed loop covering ‘battery design – production – use – ladder utilization – recycling and resource recovery’.” Song Dan, head of CATL’ Recycling Economy Program, said, “Each battery should be the starting point rather than the end point of the energy cycle, which requires the collaborative innovation of global industrial partners.”
Joe Murphy, Head of Collaborative Networks at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, said, “The addition of CATL will be a key force in driving the realization of a recycling economy for batteries and the broader energy transition.”
